Research Findings on Youth Participation in Partner Countries
Within the P2P project, partners collected information on the current level of youth involvement in social and civic activities in Serbia, Italy, Portugal, Greece and Malta. The research looked at how young people participate in their communities, which activities are most popular among them, and what barriers still prevent stronger involvement.
The findings show that young people are active in different ways, including volunteering, environmental initiatives, cultural events, sports activities, student structures, youth organisations, online activism and local community actions. At the same time, the level and form of participation differ from country to country, depending on available opportunities, institutional support, geographic location and socio-economic background.
The research also identified several common challenges. Many young people face a lack of information about participation opportunities, limited financial resources, transport difficulties, time constraints, and the feeling that their voice will not lead to real change. These barriers are especially visible among young people from rural areas or fewer-opportunity backgrounds.
The collected data will help partners better understand the needs of young people and develop practical tools for improving youth participation through sport. These findings will also support the development of the manual “Youth involvement in democratic processes and Sport activities”, which will offer guidance for youth workers, sport organisations, trainers and young leaders.
