Practical Guide for the Development of Sport Youth Councils

Published by admin on

As one of the results of the P2P project, the Practical Guide for Development of Sport Youth Councils was created to support sport federations, sport clubs, associations and other organisations interested in giving young people a more active role in sport governance. The guide was developed by TDM 2000 International as part of Work Package 3 – Sport Youth Council and Youth Board.

The guide offers practical suggestions and considerations for the main steps needed to create and develop a Sport Youth Council. It covers important aspects such as defining the council’s mandate, roles and values, selecting members, setting responsibilities, creating a governance plan, planning meetings, developing an action plan and connecting the council with sport organisations.

The publication is intended for sport federations and sport clubs that want to provide young people with sustained opportunities to contribute to decision-making processes. It helps organisations understand how young people can be supported to participate, express their opinions, develop leadership skills and take an active role in shaping sport activities that affect them.

The guide also explains the difference and connection between Sport Youth Councils and Sport Youth Boards, presenting them as structures that can strengthen youth participation, representation and communication between young people and sport decision-makers. It underlines that there is no single model that fits every organisation, so each club, association or federation can adapt the proposed structure to its own needs, capacities and local context.

This guide is one of the key tools developed within the P2P project because it helps transform the idea of youth participation into a concrete and usable structure. It can serve as a starting point for organisations that want to build more inclusive, youth-friendly and participatory sport environments. The guide is available for download in the Results section of the project website.
