Sport Youth Council and Sport Youth Board – Members Selection Guidelines

As part of the P2P project, the document “Sport Youth Council and Sport Youth Board – Members Selection Guidelines” was developed to support partners and sport organisations in selecting members for the newly created youth participation structures. The guidelines were developed by TDM 2000 International as Deliverable 3.2 within Work Package 3 – Sport Youth Council and Youth Board and finalised in November 2024. 

The main purpose of these guidelines is to ensure a transparent, inclusive and effective selection process for both the Sport Youth Council and the Sport Youth Board. The document promotes the values of diversity, fairness and equal opportunity, making sure that young people from different backgrounds have the chance to be represented and involved. 

The guidelines provide clear criteria for selecting Sport Youth Council members, including the recommended size of the council, age range, membership expectations, inclusivity and diversity, gender balance, representation, and the ideal skills and qualities of members. They also explain the full application process, including the design of the application form, promotion strategy, application review, etc. 

It explains possible approaches for selecting board members, such as an application-based process or appointment by a selection team. The guidelines also help organisations decide which approach best fits their context, needs and goals. 

This document is an important practical tool because it helps partner organisations create well-balanced, motivated and representative groups of young people who can contribute meaningfully to sport governance. By using these guidelines, sport clubs, associations and federations can strengthen youth empowerment and ensure that young people are actively involved in decisions that affect them.The guidelines are available for download in the Results section of the project website.
